The publication of the Benchmarking and Data Book of Water Utilities in India is very timely as it is a first step in benchmarking service levels for the urban water supply sector. Reliable performance data for planning will be necessary to monitor and sustain the reforms under JNNURM over the 7 . Numerous books have been written which deal with transport problems in developed and developing countries, and with the planning and management of transport organisations in developed countries, but none deals specifically with the planning, regulation, management and control of public transport in developing countries. This book meets that need.
